OPA is recipient of the 2023 Department of Justice COPS SVPP Grant

Oxford Preparatory Academy is pleased to receive the School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) Award, a grant awarded through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).

OPA was awarded a grant of $374,000, paid over 3 years, to improve school security through evidence-based school safety programs.

The SVPP is a competitive award program with applications received from jurisdictions in all 50 states. In 2023, awards were given to only 20% of applicants, with OPA being one of only 20 suburban schools selected from across the country. Applications were evaluated on several factors, including the impact of the proposed project, current school safety and planning efforts, management and implementation plan, and sustainability plan.

OPA is committed to having the safety and security of students and staff be a top priority. Having the support of the Department of Justice through the SVPP grant allows us to continuously enhance our efforts to plan and sustain effective school safety programs and further honor this commitment.

The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) responsible for advancing the practice of community policing by the nation’s state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies through information and grant resources. Since 1994, the COPS Office has been appropriated more than $20 billion to help advance community policing.
