The California Department of Education (CDE) released the 2022-2023 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) summary reports on October 18, 2023. We are happy to report that both OPA-South Orange County and OPA-Saddleback Valley scored higher in ELA, Math, and Science than any other Orange County District!
Dr. Amy Kernan, Executive Director, shared her thoughts on this achievement: "I am extremely proud of this wonderful achievement for our OPA Champions, staff, and families. Although test scores are not the only measure of success, I am happy that our students continue to achieve at the highest levels on these performance assessments. These measures, along with the various components of our Champion Profile and other local assessments, continue to show that our students are well prepared for future success."
OPA is committed to developing the whole child, supporting all students academically, socially, and emotionally. A variety of enrichment and intervention opportunities continue to be implemented alongside rigorous and high-quality instruction to enhance and support our students in achieving their highest potential. The outcomes of these efforts are reflected in many ways, including test results such as the CAASPP.
Congratulations Champions! We are so proud of you!

All students in grade 3-8 participated in the CAASPP in both ELA and Math, and students in grades 5 and 8 participated in the California Science Test (CAST) in the Spring of 2023. These assessments are one of many measures used by OPA to assess student performance. OPA staff use these assessments, along with other measures, to understand students’ strengths and needs and help us determine areas of focus as we continue to provide rigorous, high-quality instruction for all students so they can reach their highest potential.
