Good Morning Amazing OPA Families and Staff!
Last night at the Orange County Board of Education meeting, the OPA - Middle School petition was unanimously approved with no conditions for a term of five years. I am so grateful for all of the support from our OPA community. This is an extremely exciting step forward for OPA, and it will provide many new opportunities for our middle school and elementary champions.
Thank you to everyone that came to the meeting last night to support OPA and our new middle school. I want to especially thank our amazing speakers Sophie Kim, Josh Noh, Shally Zomorodi, Delite Travis, Theresa Alderson, Courtney White, T. Ceballos, and Heather Roney. Your words were incredibly eloquent and embodied what really makes OPA so special - the support of our amazing community.
Our next steps will be to apply to Saddleback Valley Unified for a school site to house the new middle school. This is done through a facilities request which must be turned in by November 1st. We are hoping to receive information about the site in early 2023. As we get more information, we will share it with families. Most of the possible school sites are very centrally located between our two current campuses.
I am also extremely excited to announce that our new middle school principal, John Briquelet, was just announced as a finalist for National Principal of the Year!! Mr. Briquelet is the current California Principal of the Year, but we were just notified that he is also one of three finalist to become the National Principal of the Year. Congratulations John! The winner will be named in Washington, D.C., at the National Association of School Principals Conference in November. We are so honored that Mr. Briquelet has chosen to join our team and lead our new OPA middle school. You can access the announcement regarding the National Principal of the Year finalists in Edweek.
We will continue to update you on all of the developments and news regarding the new middle school. You will be receiving information about upcoming town halls and information sessions soon. You can also access more information on our middle school webpage.
I am continually in awe of what OPA has accomplished and the incredible opportunities that our schools provide for children. And I can't express enough how grateful I am for all of you. Our school's are #1 for a reason - our families, staff, and champions. Thank you all. And congratulations OPA!!!!
